This special free webinar from BAPM to celebrate World Prematurity Day is planned to highlight the lifelong impact of prematurity with a focus on supporting families and improving long-term outcomes for children born preterm. It is for any professional involved in supporting families and children after neonatal care.
It is one year since the publication of the House of Lords inquiry report - Preterm birth: Reducing risk and improving lives, which outlined in clear detail the lasting impact that premature birth can have on families and children born prematurely. Prematurity doesn’t end when parents bring their baby or babies home from hospital. While recovering from the trauma of neonatal intensive care, parents are at much greater risk of mental health difficulties, children are frequently re-admitted back to hospital, and children born preterm are more likely than their peers born at term to have a Special Educational Need or Disability.
The committee’s report concluded there is a clear need for a co-ordinated effort to reduce the impact of preterm birth. In this webinar we will discuss the life-long impact of prematurity and bring services together to explore examples of best practice.
The webinar, hosted jointly with BANNFU, will be chaired by Catriona Ogilvy, BAPM’s Family Advocacy and Support Lead.
