This two-day workshop aims to help individuals develop conversation skills when approaching parents to talk about bad news and redirection of care for their baby. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify the unique impact of critical care conversations and decisions about their baby for parents and their families.
  • Understand the long-term impact of communication.
  • Understand the key elements of communicating sensitively and effectively with parents to allow them to express their own concerns and perspectives freely.
  • Feel confident in facilitating joint decision making.
  • Identify self-care and learning development needs.
  • Be self-aware in all communication with parents & families.

Core Target Audience:

Neonatal Consultants, Consultant Paediatricians with Neonatal Interest, Associate Specialist/Specialty Doctors in Neonatal Medicine, Senior Paediatric/Neonatal Trainees, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPS) and Senior Neonatal Nurses.

RCPCH Educational CPD approval granted.
