In an announcement on Monday 15 September, the government confirmed the 14 Trusts set to have their maternity and neonatal care scrutinised by Baroness Valerie Amos as part of the National Maternity Review which is due to report in December 2025. The investigation will run alongside a National Maternity and Neonatal Taskforce – set up and chaired by the Health and Social Care Secretary and made up of a panel of esteemed experts and families. The review hopes to address several issues facing maternity and neonatal care in England.

The Trusts involved have been chosen for investigation based on a range of factors including the Care Quality Commission maternity patient survey, MBRRACE-UK perinatal mortality rates and family feedback.

BAPM recognises that it is important to support the review and hope that recommendations from previous reviews which have not yet been actioned will be addressed. We hope it will help to provide families with the answers they deserve, as well as setting out a path towards consistent national improvements in care for all women, babies and families receiving maternity and neonatal care. BAPM is ready to help support the taskforce and review, if asked to do so.

British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) is registered in England & Wales under charity number 1199712 at 5-11 Theobalds Road, London, WC1X 8SH.
