The BAPM Palliative Care frameworkwas published in July 2024. NHS England are supporting BAPM to undertake a review of the implementation of recommendations.

Project Objectives

  • Assess the current status of the BAPM neonatal palliative care framework’s implementation across England.
  • Identify areas of excellence and areas for development.
  • Develop targeted, practical recommendations to guide the next phase of neonatal palliative care.

Project Deliverables

  • Survey - Development and distribution of a survey to neonatal networks across the UK to gather information about current practices, the progress made so far on recommendations contained in the framework and any barriers to implementation. To identify what palliative and bereavement learning/provision exists, which are included within mandatory training within trust providers and the learning/provision available at each level of practice; entry, enhanced and advanced practice.
  • Thematic analysis of results.
  • Share results from devolved nations with their networks.
  • Report on palliative care in England - A comprehensive report of the survey findings from the 9 ODNs in England to include recommendations for future practice.

Meetings

It is envisaged that this work will take approximately 6 months and involve around 6 virtual meetings.

  • 1 Bereavement Midwife

There will be representatives from NHSE and several organisations in addition to those listed above.

Applications from BAPM members will be given priority. This work is to be undertaken on a voluntary basis.
