BAPM is seeking one or more members from the devolved nations to join BAPM’s National Policy Steering Group.

The purpose of the Group is to lead BAPM’s work in advocating for babies, their families and perinatal health care professionals at a national level. This will include shaping BAPM’s response to national news and policy changes affecting perinatal care, and proactively campaigning for issues on behalf of our members and stakeholders on a national level.

Members of this group are usually members of BAPM’s Executive Committee, however we currently have no one on the group from the devolved nations and as an organisation that covers the British Isles it is important that we have representation beyond England.

Group Remit

  • Discuss and prioritise the issues most important to BAPM members.
  • Make recommendations to the BAPM Executive Committee on work BAPM should undertake to facilitate improvements in these issues.
  • Campaign for, and help to facilitate, improvements needed in perinatal care through the communication with government bodies and partner organisations.
  • Monitor recommendations made by BAPM and suggest ways to facilitate implementation of these.
  • Prioritise agenda items to raise at external policy meetings attended by BAPM reps.
  • Share updates from external groups.
  • Agree a BAPM response to news, policy changes and consultations that affect perinatal care.
  • Initiate communications to BAPM members to update them on the work or BAPM or external organisations in regards to national policy work.

It is envisaged that the steering group will meet virtually 3 times per year, however, there may be additional meetings for any sub-groups working on specific workstreams or individual projects.

Emergency meetings may be declared if a major news story or policy change affecting perinatal care occurs. The term will be for a maximum of 3 years.
