BAPM is seeking members to join a working group to develop a Toolkit to support the reduction or prevention of cases of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).

In recent years, the incident of comorbidities association with extreme prematurity has reduced, with the exception of BPD which has shown a steady increasing trend. The UK has one of the highest reported rates in Europe. This toolkit will use the latest evidence to suggest practical ways units can reduce their incidence of BPD cases using QI methodology.

BAPM QI toolkits target key NNAP measures with basic QI tools and methods that are quick to learn and easy to apply.

Each toolkit will:

  • Review the evidence base for effective interventions.
  • Facilitate units in interrogating their own data and processes in order to undertake selected quality improvement activities suited to the local context Assist units in interpreting and monitoring the results of their QI activities.
  • Provide and signpost resources to facilitate QI in the area of focus.

Vacancies on the group are:

  • 1 NICU Consultant
  • 1 LNU/SCU Consultant
  • 1 Trainee
  • 1 ANNP / Neonatal Nurse
  • 1 Parent
No previous experience of BAPM working groups is required and applications from BAPM members will be given priority.

The first meeting will be held on 14 July 2022. It is envisaged that this work will take approximately nine months and involve 3-4 virtual meetings although more may be scheduled if needed.
