New guidelines on neonatal postmortem examinations

15 May 2019

The Royal College of Pathologists (with BAPM as a Stakeholder) have developed guidelines on Neonatal Postmortem examinations.

These guidelines provide practical technical advice to the pathologists, and minimum standards for autopsy reports. We should like to highlight to our members the need to complete postmortem consent forms correctly, and provide sufficiently detailed clinical information to the pathologists (for example, using the specimen autopsy request form in Appendix A). Inclusion of pathologists at the Perinatal Death Reviews/meetings is also highly recommended.
